Hello, all. For my first blog entry, I will be reviewing a spicy South Korean ramen that my sisters got for me over winter break known as Nongshim Chal Bibim Myun. Now what's so special about this Korean ramen is that it isn't served in a rich steaming bowl of broth. Instead, it should actually be served cold. The coldness actually helps maintain the texture of the noodle. Korean food can be very spicy so the cold noodle help cool off your palette. A little fun fact: Koreans are the largest consumers of ramen world wide. Chal Bibim Myun isn't the healthiest of packaged ramen (especially with all that sodium), but I was pretty damn hungry and Papa gotta eat. Preparation If you haven't prepared bagged ramen before, it's mad easy - as long as you have a stove, a pan and water, you're good. First and foremost, bring your water to a boil. Then, simply throw your ramen in for about 2-3 minutes. Start to stir it up once it gets soft. Next, and most importantly with this type of ramen, strain the ramen out and cool it in iced water. You're trying to eat these bad boys cold, remember that. If you felt a little fancy like me, prepare a soft boiled egg on the side. I forgot to take pictures, but here's how to make them - First, bring you water to a boil. Then, drop your egg(s) in. If you don't want boiling splashing all over you, use a spoon and gently place the egg in the pot. Drop the water down to a simmer and let the egg do its thing for about 3 minutes. After that, let the egg sit in cold water for 10 minutes. I wanted to give it a little Philippino spin so I fried up some spam. Before I start getting complaints and nasty comments about spam, look up its history with Asian Americans. Also, ask any Hawaiian why they love spam and they'll shut you up.
The sauce wasn't as spicy as I thought, however it had a good balance with the cold noodles. It wasn't too salty and it didn't give me any stomach issues afterwards. Overall, I give it an 8/10. Also, here's an image of my roommates dog, Zucc, staring at me eat. Follow her Instagram @zuccthefrenchie, it'll be the best thing you've done all day.
